Through my journey so far I have learned that awareness is what keeps us unstuck in our little world, in our mind, in our ideas of who we think we need to be to survive, and in our ego. It can be really helpful to bring conscious awareness into everything we do, think and feel. Without that, we are helplessly asleep and operating with a background program of our culture, society, family, etc. running on autopilot, when all our reactions become mostly unconscious and ego-centric. Our little self gets bruised by literally everything and feels like things are happening to it. Complete victimhood mentality. Which often comes with a sense of entitlment. It is a deep rabbit hole to fall into... deeper and deeper we go, till we forget completely who we are and start to identify with all the ideas, beliefs, external factors and enviroments...and by that point we are suffering deeply. No matter what we do, it does not fill the emptiness inside...
And the time comes when we hit the proverbial rock bottom of our lives, be that in our career, our relationships, our physical, mental health or substance use that we realize that something needs to change... Who am I? Why the hell I am even here? we might ask... Have you been there before? I sure have. |
